What Exactly is Olaplex and How Does this Hair Miracle Work?

If you wish that your hair was stronger, healthier, and more luscious, you’re definitely not alone. While many of us long for the dream hair we see on celebrities in magazines or on Instagram, achieving such results is possible and in some cases, simply involves being a little kinder to our strands.

We’re talking about being mindful of the everyday wear and tear, heat, colouring and sun exposure our hair often experiences; all of which contribute to dry, brittle, and generally unhealthy-looking locks if we fail to protect and treat them regularly with rejuvenating hair products.

Applying leave-in conditioners and hair mask treatments are excellent choices for hydrating and improving the strength of your hair, but if the damage is severe, sometimes reviving one’s hair needs extra attention and care through an in-salon, multi-step hair treatment.

The Miracle Multi-Step Hair Treatment

If you colour your hair, chances are you’ve probably heard of Olaplex. But what exactly is it?

With Olaplex, one of the most popular brands in the market, you can have stronger hair, achieve the colour you desire, and virtually eliminate your split ends. Olaplex has received excellent reviews and recognitions from both its consumers and hair artists, as it offers the complete solution to repair, rebuild and restore broken hair bonds.

Let’s take a further look at how this miracle worker is formulated and who might be the perfect client to experience it.

How Does Olaplex Transform Your Hair?

It all begins with the ever so powerful and patented ingredient; Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. Formulated to locate broken hair bonds in your hair caused by heat, chemical, mechanical and colour damage, it works to reconnect disulphide sulphur bonds, strengthening and maximizing the state of your hair. Essentially Olaplex rebuilds the structure and integrity of your hair and is entirely compatible with all types of hair; curly, straight, wavy, coloured, natural, thick, thin, fine, etc.

There are Three Main Steps in the Process

No.1 Bond Multiplier is a solution containing bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, used in salons to repair damaged hair. Alternatively, it can be mixed directly into the permanent dye that is used to colour the hair.

No.2 Bond Perfector contains less bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate than what’s present in No.1, along with several additional conditioning ingredients. This step is also carried out in the salon as a post-colour conditioner. The product is left on for approximately 20 minutes after the excess hair colour has been washed off thoroughly.

No.3 Hair Perfector, which contains the smallest amount of the active ingredient along with an assortment of conditioning agents, and is applied outside the salon directly at home.

When Might You Benefit from Olaplex?

Olaplex can be used on virtually any hair type whether you colour it or not. Specifically, however, it is ideal for clients who colour or apply heat to their hair regularly. When it comes to colour treatment, Olaplex is a lifesaver. This is due to the fact that bleaching is much harder on the hair’s bonds than any other hair process, as it pushes the hair to its maximum level of lift, which can result in immediate damage.  With Olaplex applied, these broken bonds will be repaired and protected from further damage, leaving your strands healthy, soft, and in great condition.

Olaplex may be ideal in the following additional circumstances:

  • If you undergo chemical services such as colouring, perms, relaxers and keratin treatments
  • If you are experiencing thermal damage caused by hairdryers, straighteners, and curlers
  • If you notice that brushing, tugging, and styling hair results in mechanical damage
  • If your hair has been damaged by the sun and humidity, extreme weather and pollution
  • Any changes in your lifestyle or health that you may be experiencing, including age, stress, medical treatments, and hormones

How Often Should Olaplex Be Used?

This will vary greatly depending on the health and integrity of your hair, and of course how much damage has occurred. That said, for the best results (especially for moderate to severely damaged hair ) it’s generally a good idea to receive treatment with each visit to the salon; following the process up at home with No.3, approximately every two or three weeks.
